Applications Open: 2015 Walter Roberts Award for Public Diplomacy Studies

Walter Roberts Public Diplomacy Studies Award

Students in Global Communication encouraged to apply

February 02, 2015

Applications for the 2015 Walter Roberts Award for Public Diplomacy Studies are now open to all students in the Global Communication M.A. program. Based on a review of the applicant's interest and pursuit of public diplomacy studies during their time at GW, he or she will receive a $1,000 scholarship to be disbursed directly to the student. If the applicant pool warrants, a $500 award will also be disbursed to a second-place runner up.

Students interested in applying should review the details and send in their application materials to [email protected] no later than 11:59 p.m. on March 6, 2015.

The award is generously supported by the Walter Roberts Endowment, named after the late Dr. Walter Roberts, a pioneer of U.S. public diplomacy. A native of Vienna, Austria, Dr. Roberts served as associate director of the former U.S. Information Agency (USIA). Later, he taught the first course in public diplomacy at GW in 1985 after a distinguished career in the U.S. Foreign Service and early days of U.S. international broadcasting.

In June 2014, Dr. Roberts passed away in Washington, D.C. As part of his legacy, the IPDGC and Walter Roberts Endowment continue to support his life's goals: the academic study of public diplomacy for professional development.
