Chinese delegation at Capitol Hill
May 04, 2015

Last week, IPDGC hosted a delegation of 17 government spokespeople from the People's Republic of China. For five days starting on April 27, the delegation engaged in seminars given by GW faculty and fellows on how public affairs is conducted in the U.S. and the challenges of managing media crisis situations. In addition, the delegation went on site visits to the Department of Commerce, State Department, and Capitol Hill to meet with their counterparts in the U.S. government. The delegation also met with leaders of various media entities, including Sam Feist, chief of CNN's Washington Bureau. To put their experiences into practice, they received professional training by media consultant on how to give live camera interviews.

This year marks the fifth year in which IPDGC has hosted a delegation of government spokespeople from China. In collaboration with the State Council Information Office in Beijing and the Embassy of China, the program serves to deepen understanding of media practices in U.S. public affairs by Chinese government officials and build relationships between Chinese and U.S. government spokespeople.
