Public Diplomacy Council names Ford event "Best Lecture on Public Diplomacy"

January 14, 2015

The Public Diplomacy Council, a Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit organization, named IPDGC as giving the "Best 2014 Lecture on Public Diplomacy" for this past November's event with Robert Ford, recent U.S. ambassador to Syria.

Excerpt from the PDC's website:

"Best 2014 Lecture on Public Diplomacy: the annual Walter Roberts Lecture, delivered by Amb. Robert Ford (former ambassador to Syria) at GWU. His subject was "Five Lessons About Public Diplomacy" and he illustrates them with real world anecdotes from recent Middle East diplomacy. Spellbinding stuff. After Amb Ford's 25-minute talk, Frank Sesno asks Ford some questions and then Ford takes questions from the floor. The student questions are outstanding. And at the very end, he talks about a career in government service. All in all, a bravura performance." (Link)

The event, hosted as part of the annual Walter Roberts Lecture, was sponsored by the Walter Roberts Endowment, named after the institute's founding namesake, Dr. Walter Roberts, former associate director of the now-defunct U.S. Information Agency. As organizations committed to public diplomacy, its academic study and professional practice, IPDGC is honored with this distinction from the PDC.
