Academics

Welcome to the Master of Arts in Global Communication program!

The Master of Arts in Global Communication is offered jointly by GW’s Elliott School of International Affairs and Columbian College of Arts and Sciences’ School of Media and Public Affairs. This graduate program allows students to learn about public diplomacy and the global information environment. As future or advancing professionals in the field, students learn how to work in this environment and communicate effectively with audiences worldwide.

In partnership with the Walter Roberts Endowment, the Institute for Public Diplomacy and Global Communication (IPDGC) promotes the understanding of modern-day diplomacy and global communication challenges; strengthening the connections between scholars and practitioners in the U.S. and around the world.

This is a panel of career diplomats speaking to students about their jobs.

As well as these activities, IPDGC also invites contributions to our blog, Smart Power. The blog is a platform to express your views and contribute to the greater discussion of public diplomacy as it relates to soft power, global issues, international politics, and policy. You will share this space with academics, practitioners, and other young professionals who are keen to advance the profession.

Graduate Career Development

Our colleagues over at the Elliott School’s Graduate Student Services office will work with you to make take advantage and develop meaningful career opportunities. From the start of your graduate journey in Global Communications, the career development team will assist you in developing a career plan. This will be followed by interaction and participation in various support programs, often organized in collaboration with IPDGC.

I would recommend the Global Communications program as you get the best of both worlds with classes at the School of Media and Public Affairs and the Elliott School of International Affairs. This program connected me to professors who helped me combine my different passions; together with good guidance from the program director, supportive mentoring from teachers, and good experiences in the professional world through internships.
