February 2: Strengthening Public Diplomacy: The Council of American Overseas Research Centers Join the State Department

The February First Monday Forum will focus on the Council of American Overseas Research Centers and the organization’s role in supporting American public diplomacy.

The program will be chaired by PDCA Board Member Larry Schwartz. A panel of speakers representing overseas research centers will include:  Heidi Wiederkehr, Executive Director of the Council; Amb. (ret) Edward Gnehm, GWU Elliott School Professor Emeritus and Board Chair of the American Center of Research (ACOR) in Amman, Jordan; and former PD officer Mary Jeffers, Board Chair of the Tangier Legation in Morocco (TALIM), the ORC based in Morocco.

The event will take place at noon at GWU’s Lindner Family Commons (1957 E Street, NW, Room 602, Washington, D.C. 20052) and will also be available via Zoom. For those who arrive before 11:40 a.m., a light lunch will be provided.

Juan Luis Manfredi Sánchez is Professor of International Studies at the University of Castilla-La Mancha. He is a member of the Centre of Excellence Jean Monnet at the European Studies Center.  

He is an Associate Professor at the Spanish Diplomatic School. He was named Prince of Asturias Distinguished Visiting Professor at the School of Foreign Service (Georgetown University, 2021-2024). He was -and still is-  member of the Latin American Leadership Program fellow. Currently, he serves as Geopolitics & Diplomacy Vicepresident of the Georgetown Club of Spain. He also serves as International Studies Association – ICOMM Section Chair (International Communication) and executive committee member.
